(OOLITIC) - Two area teens were taken to the hospital after bad brakes sent their car into a tree in Oolitic.

Lawrence County police reports say 17-year-old Adam Jones of Bloomington was driving east on Patton Hill Road, and when he applied the brakes about a quarter-mile west of Patton View Road, they didn't respond.

Jones said he applied the emergency brake to bring the car to a halt, but that caused him to lose control, run off the road and into a tree.

Jones was taken to the hospital for contusions to his face, and his passenger, 17-year-old Cody Arthur of Bedford, for pain in his chest.

The report says while at the hospital, Arthur reported he did not remember what occurred during the accident.
