Prognosis "Not Good" For Former IU President Brand
(BLOOMINGTON) - A former president of Indiana University has been diagnosed with pancreatic cancer.
Former President Myles Brand, who left the university to become president of the National Collegiate Athletic Association in Indianapolis, was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer and, reportedly, his long-term prognosis is "not good" according to a statement from Brand.
A release from current IU President Michael McRobbie says Brand sent out an e-mail to NCAA employees on Saturday announcing his condition. Also in the release, McRobbie wishes brand well in his recovery.
Pancreatic cancer is a very dangerous form of cancer since it has few early signs, and is famous for striking such noteworthy figures as Hollywood actor Patrick Swayze and Apple Computer co-founder and CEO Steve Jobs.
According to an article published in 2007 by the Cancer Journal for Clinicians, pancreatic cancer is one of the most fatal forms of cancer, though it only is responsible for about 2.5% of cancer diagnoses in America.
