What To Do On Inauguration Day In Area
(UNDATED) - Today is the big day…inauguration day.
There's a number of events throughout the listening area today for group viewing of the events in Washington, DC.
There are public viewings and events at the Wells Library at Indiana University, a Nick's English Hut in downtown Bloomington, a celebration at Rachel's Café, and a gathering of the Monroe County Democratic Women's Club at Coaches' Bar & Grill.
However, here in Lawrence County, the gatherings and events are private.
Lawrence County Democratic Party Chairman Carol Roop tells WBIW News that, here in the county, the economic conditions and cold weather are keeping their celebrations down to private parties. However, she says that they feel the pomp and circumstance, especially in Washington, is warranted, since, "this is a celebration and acknowledgement that out form of government still does work."
While Hoosiers are watching the inauguration of Obama either at the various gatherings in the area, or others at private parties or from the comfort of their own living room couches tomorrow, there's a number of Hoosiers making their mark on the event...in Washington.
13-year-old Luke Jakob of Mitchell will be in the parade as part of the "Reach for your Dreams" anti-drug program.
9-year-old Richard Wright of Bloomington wrote an essay that won his family an all expenses paid trip to experience the inauguration.
And, of course, Indiana University law professor Dawn Johnsen will be joining the administration as the head of the Office of Legal Council.
