(BLOOMINGTON) - Bloomington and Monroe Hospitals have decided this year they will not publish their annual rate increases in the Bloomington newspaper as has been standard practice in years past.

The Bloomington Herald Times reports Bloomington Hospital officials told them it was because of the, "competitive environment," between the larger Bloomington Hospital and the much smaller Monroe Hospital and other area medical facilities.

Monroe Hospital refused to justify their decision to the paper. At least, for Bloomington Hospital, spokeswoman Amanda Roach said patients have been able to log on to the hospital's website and solicit a cost estimate within 24 hours which is reportedly more individualized.

However, those online cost estimates, again, don't indicate rate increases from 2008 to 2009.

The new price structure went into effect at the first of the year.
