Battery Complaint Filed In Lawrence County Jail Incident
(BEDFORD) - A seemingly violent incident in the Lawrence County Jail Friday has resulted in one inmate being taken to a local hospital for treatment, and a battery affidavit being signed.
Lawrence County Sheriff Sam Craig tells WBIW News a man named William Speer turned himself in on a warrant for parole revocation, and when he was in jail, other inmates reportedly started a fight of some sort with him.
Craig is being cautious about releasing details as the situation is sensitive and could result in a further flare-up.
Craig, however, can say that a complaint has been filed, a battery affidavit has been signed, and those accused may face some sort of internal disciplinary action within the jail.
Speer's injuries, however, were reported to be "not serious," according to Craig.
Craig says he's unsure what the initial warrant stemmed from, but that the previous arrest on his jail card was for driving while suspended.
