Alleged Drunk Driver Accidentally Sets Car On Fire
(BEDFORD) - Alcohol is being blamed in part for a car in a ditch that caught fire early yesterday morning.
Lawrence County police reports say 34-year-old Andrew Davis of Orleans entered a private driveway on US-50 about a half mile west of Shawswick School Road, attempted to back out, and ended up backing into a large ditch.
According to the report, Davis knocked on the door of the home he tried to turn around from, and asked for help, but while the person at the house was calling police for assistance, Davis decided to try getting the car out of the ditch himself.
However, in this attempt, Davis reportedly overheated the vehicle, catching the car on fire. When police arrived, they arrested Davis, saying his blood alcohol content was almost 3 times the legal limit.
The car was a total loss.
