(BLOOMINGTON) - Indiana University has changed the name of one of their gymnasium.

The Ora L. Wildermuth intramural center will henceforth be known as the Garrett-Wildermuth Fieldhouse, pending final approval by the IU Board of Trustees.

The added name comes from Bill Garrett, who was a top-notch Hoosier roundballer in the late 1940s back when IU basketball was still played in that building.

Garrett is also known as Indiana University's first African-American basketball player.

The name change is primarily intended to address criticisms made by the student newspaper, the Indiana Daily Student, of Ora Wildermuth, who served as a trustee between 1925 and 1952, citing his opposition to racial integration and other similar sentiments.
