Plane Goes Down In "Unscheduled Landing" In Bloomington
(BLOOMINGTON) - A small, single-engine plane went down in Bloomington yesterday morning.
State Police Sgt. Don Gregory tells WBIW News the plane went down in a field described as a "quarried area" around 8:00am yesterday morning, however, the pilot was able to walk away.
Officials say the plane landed on its wheels but the plane's wing struck a tree, damaging the landing gear. FAA officials in suburban Chicago, who handle the area, tell WBIW News the accident wasn't a major incident and described it as an "unscheduled landing."
No further information is expected to be released about the incident until the FAA investigation is complete which, officials say, probably won't be for 4 to 5 weeks.
The plane went down a little after 8:00am Thursday morning, landing on its extended landing gear, but then the wing struck a tree and damaged some of the landing gear.
