IU Law Prof. Says She's Not Surprised About Death Penalty Case

(BLOOMINGTON) - The United States Supreme Court Tuesday refused to rehear the Louisiana child rapist death penalty case, and one Indiana University law professor says she’s not surprised.
Professor Jody Madeira, who focuses her research on capital punishment cases, says the case in Kennedy v. Louisiana failed to show any popular or functional benefit to applying the death penalty to child rapists, despite overall public ire.
Back in June, the Supreme Court ruled that the death penalty is still intended only for murder and other grievous crimes such as treason and espionage.
The day before yesterday in a 7-2 decision, the Supreme Court refused to revisit the decision.
