Oldest Brother Of Dalai Lama Dies At 86
(BLOOMINGTON) - The oldest brother of the Dalai Lama has died. 86-year-old Taktser Rinpoche died in his Indiana home Friday after a prolonged illness.
Rinpoche taught Tibetan studies at Indiana University in Bloomington, where he founded the Tibetan Cultural Center in 1979.
Rinpoche was born Thupten Jigme Norbu in Tibet in 1922 and was the first Tibetan to go into exile and the first to settle in North America.
Rinpoche leaves behind his wife Kunyang, and his three sons.
