Hill Returns Home For Input, Buyer Criticizes Bailout Bill
(UNDATED) - The Dow dropped more than 777 points yesterday, its biggest point drop in history, as a result of Congress not passing the bailout package that had been negotiated over the previous several days.
Now comes the question, here in the WBIW listening area, of who voted for it, against it, and why. Of our 4 area congressmen, 3 of them voted against the measure.
Republicans Steve Buyer and Mike Pence both said "no thank you," while our area Democrats, Baron Hill and Brad Ellsworth, were split, with Hill saying no and Ellsworth saying yes.
People in the 9th Congressional District, which surrounds but doesn't include Lawrence County to the east and south, can meet with Congressman Hill this evening at Bloomington City Hall at 5:30 to talk about the situation.
Congressman Buyer, who represents Lawrence County, Ellettsville and areas north, said his "nay" vote was due to the bill not protecting taxpayers nor free market principles.
No meetings have been scheduled thus far for Buyer.
