(BEDFORD) - German American Bancorp, owners of Stone City Bank and a number of other banks in South Central Indiana, are taking steps to protect their customers as a result of a “phishing” scam that bore their name.

German American Bank is implementing a new fraud protection measure that will hunt for suspicious transactions on their customers' bank cards, and call to verify them.

These calls are legitimate, and they will never ask you for any personal information.

They already have it. What they will ask you for, if they call you, is if you purchased that pair of jet skis out in Tijuana, Mexico, or those three Prada bags in Harlem, New York.

If you're curious or concerned about the measure, call your local German American or Stone City Bank branch, and they will be able to tell you more about it.
