(UNDATED) - State police are warning Hoosiers against leaving children unattended in vehicles.

With temps in the mid 90s and climbing into the weekend in South Central Indiana, cars in the sunlight can heat up to between 130 and 170 degrees.

Police advise teaching kids not to play in or on vehicles when they're parked and to keep them locked just in case it doesn't take.

And police also recommend installing an internal trunk release on your car if it doesn't already have one, just in case your child locks him or herself inside while playing.
