(BEDFORD) - A drunk driving arrest turned violent early Saturday morning.

Bedford Police Assistant Chief Dan Kirk tells WBIW News officers were called to the Bedford Hardee's about a woman that had run into another car in the drive-through.

When police arrived, they found the reported vehicle, driven by 35-year-old Melanie Abalos of Bedford, taking off out of the parking lot at a high rate of speed, and heading south on O Street, blowing a stop sign, crossing the centerline, and eventually stopping at 12th and O Streets.

Abalos refused sobriety testing and was then taken to the hospital for a warranted blood draw, however, she even allegedly refused that, reportedly kicking a Bedford officer in the side 3 times before she could be restrained.

Abalos was eventually taken in on a felony charge of drunk driving as well as resisting arrest, battery on a police officer, reckless driving and other lesser charges.
