Monroe County Sheriff's Department Going Green
(BLOOMINGTON) - Bloomington residents may notice something different driving around town. “Cherries and berries” flashing on top of a…hybrid sedan?
Sure enough.
According to the Bloomington Herald Times, the Monroe County Sheriff's Department has picked up a trio of Toyota Prius hybrids for administrative use, and will issue one to Sheriff Jim Kennedy, Chief Deputy Scott Mellinger, and the third one will be used for serving papers across the county.
Though Kennedy says hybrids like the Prius would not be usable for patrol and pursuit duty like the usual Crown Victorias they use, they are good for administrative duty, where not a lot of strain is placed on the vehicle.
Since Priuses are slated to get between 40 and 50 miles per gallon, and hybrids fare much better in city stoplight driving than anything, they may probably see healthy returns.
