(COLUMBUS) - Bartholomew County flood victims who lost furniture to rising waters will have an opportunity today to have some of their belongings replaced.

United Way of Bartholomew County will give away four semi-trailers full of new furniture donated from Dorel Juvenile Group in Columbus. Bartholomew County United Way President Doug Otto says he wants to make it clear the giveaway is not open to the public, and the families most in need have already been contacted.

After a notice of the giveaway appeared in a local newspaper, Otto says he's worried that too many people may show up expecting free furniture.

He says there's around a quarter-million dollars of furniture ready for residents in need. Otto says while there's no set limit on how much furniture families can pick up at the giveaway, United Way staff will be keeping an eye out for people trying to make off with more than their fair share.
