Columbus Mayor: Look For Flood Losses To Top $500M
(COLUMBUS)- The Mayor of Columbus says more than 100 businesses in his city have been damaged or destroyed by last month’s flooding.
Fred Armstrong tells Inside Indiana Business that he's still counting the cost, but he expects the figure to top half-a-billion dollars.
The mayor says it could take two years for Columbus to fully recover.
He says some of the city's bigger employers, like Cummins, are keeping workers employed by paying them to help with the cleanup.
But he says some small businesses will be forced to salvage what they can and take their losses.
