(CROTHERSVILLE) - A two car wreck on US-31 in Jackson County sent two to the hospital, one in serious condition.

State police in Seymour say a Ford Escort driven by 28-year-old Saul Rodriquez of Hartsville, was headed north in the southbound lane of US-31 while 20-year-old Ryan Smith of Uniontown was headed south, also in the southbound lane, and though they tried to miss each other, both of their passenger sides collided sending Smith into the ditch and Rodriguez came to a rest still on the highway.

Smith was not injured, but his passenger, 20-year-old Shanda Barrett of Uniontown, was taken to Scott County Hospital with a head injury and a broken ankle. Rodriguez was flown by Phi Air Medical to University of Louisville Hospital and was listed in serious condition in their critical care unit.

State troopers say there were open alcohol containers in Rodriguez's vehicle and that alcohol is believed to be a factor in the crash.

Though no charges have been officially listed yet, the investigation is ongoing.
