(PERRY COUNTY) -A New Albany man is behind bars after attempting to flee Indiana State Police.

Around 4:30 Saturday afternoon an Indiana State Police Officer was doing routine traffic patrol on IN-37 near the Crawford and Perry County line when he noticed the driver of a blue 1985 Ford LTD was not wearing his seatbelt.

When the trooper turned on his lights and siren to attempt a traffic stop the driver, 44-year-old Kevin Starks of New Albany, sped up and refused to stop.

The pursuit continued down IN-37 where two other troopers joined the chase. Starks finally pulled his vehicle over after ten minutes of pursuit.

He was lodged in Perry County Jail on felony charges of resisting law enforcement with a vehicle and operating while being a habitual traffic violator along with other misdemeanor charges.
