(BLOOMINGTON) - Yesterday morning a Bloomington tattoo artist was thrown from his motorcycle and is now in critical condition.

29-year-old Joseph Nugent was taken to Bloomington Hospital after crashing his motorcycle on the city's westside, and his passenger, 20-year-old Tereasa Hutslar was treated for a minor knee injury.

According to Bloomington Police, Nugent and Hutslar had just left a restaurant and were going north on liberty drive, and when rounding a corner, according to Hutslar, the bike made a grinding sound like the kick stand was down.

As Nugent tried to stop he hit a curve and both were thrown from the bike, Hutslar landed in a grassy area, while Nugent struck pavement.

Neither was wearing a helmet and police say Nugent has a head injury.
