Farmers Eligible For Unemployment Assistance
(UNDATED) - Farmers impacted by the severe flooding events and tornadoes since May 30th may be eligible for special federal disaster unemployment assistance.
Teresa Voors, Department of Workforce Development Commissioner says self-employed farmers that have not paid into the state's unemployment fund may still be eligible for federal disaster unemployment assistance.
To be eligible for assistance, workers or self-employed individuals must be unemployed as a result of a major disaster in a federally declared area. Applications are accepted online and at one of the state's disaster assistance centers.
Counties in the federally declared disaster area include: Adams, Bartholomew, Brown, Clay, Daviess, Dearborn, Decatur, Gibson, Grant, Greene, Hamilton, Hancock, Henry, Huntington, Jackson, Jefferson, Jennings, Johnson, Knox, Lawrence, Marion, Monroe, Morgan, Owen, Parke, Pike, Posey, Putnam, Randolph, Ripley, Rush, Shelby, Sullivan, Vermillion, Vigo, Washington and Wayne.
