Dog Shelter Owner Recalls Rushing Waters
(MARTINSVILLE) - The owner of a Morgan County dog shelter lost nearly everything in the great flood of 2008.
However, Joyce Deckard, of Lil' Bit of Heaven Rescue and Sanctuary, says that doesn't matter. She says what does matter is that she and others were able to safely evacuate more than 140 dogs and puppies from the shelter before they drowned in rising water.
She raced time, carrying the dogs to the second floor of her home. The home was beginning to flood on its first floor.
She says the shelter will reopen. Anyone who wants to help can donate money or dog food. Contact Joyce online: heaven.petfinder.com.
