Ball State Study: Flooding May Cost $126 Million
(MUNCIE) - Ball State University’s Miller College of Business has put a preliminary price tag on this months floods in Central and South Central Indiana.
A study conducted by a professor at Ball State along with a colleague from the University of tenNessee estimates the damage totals to range around $126 million, when you add up household, business, property and infrastructure damage.
The study was conducted by Cardinal Professor Michael Hicks and Volunteer Professor Mark Burton using a methodology used in previous flooding disasters, including Hurricane Katrina along the Gulf Coast.
The Army Corps of Engineers, at the time, said the Katrina estimation was pretty close on.
However, the estimates, at this point are still preliminary since some things can't be accounted for like replacing the dam at Princes Lakes.
