11 Day Window Opens For Firework Season
(UNDATED) - Some Hoosier cities have restricted when you can shoot off fireworks. But with the fourth of July approaching, most of those limits don’t apply.
Sunday marked the start of an 11-day window in which local governments must allow fireworks from 5:00pm until two hours after sunset. On the Fourth of July itself, you're free to shoot them off from 10:00am till midnight.
You do have to follow some other rules. Only adults can buy fireworks, and they can only shoot them off with the permission of the property owner. Local governments can designate specific fireworks areas.
State Fire Marshal Jim Greeson says the two-year-old law has made the Fourth of July safer -- he says it's easier for citizens and fire officials to understand what's legal.
