Republican Leaders Bail In Monroe County
(BLOOMINGTON) - Here in Lawrence County, the Republican Party really has been the “Grand Old Party,” however, up in Monroe County, “GOP” may just stand for “Gettin’ Out Pronto!”
According to a report done by the Bloomington Herald-Times, the entire leadership of the Monroe County Republican Party turned in their letters of resignation, instead of their nominations for a new party leader.
The party was supposed to meet last night for a caucus to determine who would replace recently resigned party President Franklin Andrews.
Instead of the caucus, all officers turned in their walking papers, turning the event into more of a meeting instead, since a caucus couldn't be held without leadership.
This comes just months after Monroe County Republicans lost all but one elected position in the county in the 2007 municipal elections, and just says before next Tuesday's primary.
