Motorcyclist Launched From Bike Suffers "Massive" Head Injuries

(SPRINGVILLE) - A Springville motorcyclist is in the hospital after being launched from his bike trying to avoid an oncoming vehicle.
Lawrence County reports say 21-year-old Derek Gipson of Springville was riding his dirt bike up Hidden Acres Drive, which is a single-lane road/private drive, when he came upon the oncoming vehicle of Danny Stephens II.
Gipson tried to avoid the car, and did so successfully, but ran off the road, lost control and was tossed from the bike causing serious head injuries.
Gipson was taken to the BRMC emergency room and then flown by an Air Evac ambulance to another hospital due to massive head injuries.
