(BLOOMINGTON) - Bald eagles have been officially removed from the state’s endangered list.

In recognition of the accomplishment, a rehabbed young eagle was released at Monroe Reservoir Tuesday.

An active state bald eagle restoration ran from 1985-1989, when 73 young eagles were reintroduced and formed a core population in South Central Indiana.

The first successful nests in the state in more than 90 years were documented in 1991.
