(BLOOMINGTON) - Monroe County Sheriff’s officers have arrested two individuals on charges of drug dealing.

Monroe County Chief Deputy Scott Mellinger says an officer approached a red SUV on Lakeview Drive parked between a school bus and RV, and saw several cans around, and one inside, the vehicle, that were all torn in half.

Officials say cans torn in that fashion are often used for preparing drugs to consume. The officer obtained one of the cans from the driver, 25-year-old Nash Garrett of Bloomington, and found burn marks and cotton residue in it.

The officer arrested Garrett and his passenger, 29-year-old James Fender of Ellettsville, and searched the vehicle where he reportedly found syringes, a prescription container for methadone, Oxycontin pills, a baggie of heroin, and several other narcotics and paraphernalia.

Both Garrett and Fender were lodged in the Monroe County jail charged with felony counts of dealing and possessing controlled substances and a misdemeanor count of possession of paraphernalia.
