Matron Hawkins Trial Underway This Week

(BEDFORD) - The jury selection in the case against former Lawrence County Jail Matron Shauna Hawkins commenced yesterday.
Hawkins is facing a felony count of sexual misconduct for an alleged sexual relationship she had with a Lawrence County inmate while serving as jail matron.
Court records indicate Hawkins allegedly performed oral sex on inmate Kevin Edwards while he was incarcerated.
The trial is part of a larger overall sweep of officials from the Lawrence County Security Center and Sheriff's Department, including the former Sheriff Kent Hawkins, and two other officers under his command.
Hawkins has been free on $5,000 dollars bond, and a verdict may be handed down sometime this week.
