(BEDFORD) - A Shoplifting call to the Bedford Wal-Mart turned violent yesterday.

Bedford police reports say 34-year-old Robert Alan Thomas of Bedford was spotted by store loss prevention personnel allegedly carrying 2 cases of Bud Light and a bottle of Jim Beam out the door without paying for it.

Store security confronted Thomas and, reports say, he because physically combative. Bedford Police Chief Dennis Parsley tells WBIW News that when officers arrived, 4 security officials were restraining Thomas, and when officers took over, he allegedly continued to fight back.

Three of the security employees say they were struck in the face by Thomas, but officers eventually took him into custody.

Thomas was lodged in Lawrence County jail charged with theft, resisting arrest by force and 3 counts of battery.
