(BLOOMINGTON) - Indiana University has announced the days on which their commencement ceremonies will be held this year, and has already announced one honorary degree recipient, from the nation of Liberia.

Not only is Ellen Johnson Sirleaf from the African nation, she's the president. And, not only is she the president of Liberia, she's the first female president of the nation, and of any nation on the African continent.

To that end, Indiana University, which has had a long-standing relationship with the African country, will award President Sirleaf an honorary Doctor of Laws degree on Saturday, May 3rd, at the Assembly Hall.

This isn't the first time a Liberian head of state has come through Indiana University, as a matter of fact, Amos Sawyer, who served as interim president from 1990 to 1994 is currently a member of the IU faculty.
