(JACKSON COUNTY) - New federal air standards could mean that Jackson County is out of compliance.

The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency announced this week it's tightening the amount of smog allowed in the air to no more than 75 parts per billion. Fourteen Indiana counties are already in violation of that standard.

Jackson County is one of 10 counties the state's Department of Environmental Management said could be in violation - based on more recent data.

The new smog standards could push future industrial plants in Indiana away from urban areas and into rural counties.
