Big Ten Network May Be Here By Football Season
(CHICAGO, IL) - Comcast customers may yet have a chance of having the Big Ten Network by the time football season rolls around.
Sources have told the Chicago Tribune that Chicago-based Big Ten Network and Philadelphia-based Comcast Corporation may be breaking down the stone wall that has kept people throughout the 8-state Big Ten region from watching their favorite college teams, Hoosiers and Boilermakers included.
Comcast has recently taken over cable operations from Insight Cable in areas including Bedford and Bloomington.
The breakthrough, according to a story printed in the Chicago Tribune, came when Comcast finally relented in declaring the Big Ten Network a niche channel, which would put it on their $6.95 sports package, instead of extended basic cable like ESPN and FOX Sports Network are.
Big Ten fans from Bedford, to Bloomington, to Lafayette, Champaign-Urbana, State College, Lansing, Ann Arbor and beyond have been frustrated about the inability to see games.
However, this announcement won't help other cable Subscirbers who want to see a Hoosiers game, including Avenue customers in Mitchell.
Big Ten is still duking it out with Time Warner who operates in Buckeye country, Charter who operates in Madison, Wisconsin, and Mediacom who handles service in Iowa City.
