5th Street Apartment Building Heavily Damaged By Fire
(BEDFORD) - An apartment building under renovation in Bedford was lost to a major fire early this morning.
Bedford Fire Chief Scott Gillespie says the blaze, at a building at 5th and J Streets, was reported a little after 3:00am this morning by a neighbor.
Firefighters noticed heavy flames coming from the second floor of the 4-unit building.
Gillespie says, since the building was being redone, nobody was living there at the time.
Officials say there was heavy fire and smoke damage to the upper levels of the exterior of the building as well as the entire interior, and there was plenty of smoke and water damage to the first floor.
Gillespie says the cause of the fire has not been determined, however, an investigation is underway.
