State Police, NWS Gear Up For Severe Spring Weather
(UNDATED) - Even though we’re not quite out of the winter woods yet, the State Police all across Indiana are already gearing up for spring tornado season.
As a matter of fact, they have declared next week "Severe Weather Preparedness Week." On March 5th, the State Police and National Weather Service will be conducting a statewide test of emergency communication systems.
They also have offered safety tips, should a tornado come knocking on your door.
If you're in a home or other small building, both get to the basement or to a small, interior room on the lowest floor, and bring blankets or coats to protect yourself from debris.
If you're at school or out shopping, do the same thing, but make sure to stay away from anything glass.
If you are in a car or mobile home, get out. Get to a shelter if available or get down in a low lying ditch is there's no shelter, using your hands to cover your head.
Most deaths occur with people in cars and mobile homes.
