Sampson Has Until Friday To Back Out

(BLOOMINGTON) - Former Indiana University basketball coach Kelvin Sampson has until Friday to back out of the agreement university officials negotiated with him.

The agreement between the two parties would secure Sampson's resignation from any and all duties, positions and responsibilities to the university and, in exchange, would cut him a check for three quarters of a million dollars.

However, that's not without caveat.

Sampson, under the agreement, must cooperate with all ongoing NCAA investigations and proceedings as they relate to him, and cannot interfere with the workings of the Hoosier basketball team nor its players, nor can he bring suit against the university.

Sampson can pull out by Friday if he thinks he can make something better happen for him, however, if he stays in, the university cuts that big check and sends Sampson on his way. Reports indicate all but $200,000 of that $750,000 settlement comes from private donations.

Sampson was replaced by assistant-coach Dan Dakich who led Indiana to a win in their first game since the coach's departure, beating the Northwestern Wildcats in Evanston Saturday.

Ohio State comes tonight to the Assembly Hall in Bloomington.
