Lawrence County Area Gets Ice Bath
(BEDFORD) - The bulk of the WBIW listening area remains under a winter weather advisory through 7:00pm tonight.
The National Weather Service cancelled the winter storm warning last night, however, just because the bulk of the storm passed around us, doesn't mean we don't have problems.
If you look out the window, you won't see much snow, but you will see plenty of ice. If you draw a line from Vincennes to Bloomington to North Vernon, people south of that line are in the midst of a large patch of freezing rain and sleet.
This is making driving conditions very problematic right now. Roads are slick, though road crews are working on them.
However, right now, the best piece of advice we can give, besides staying home if you can, is to make sure your windshield is fully warmed up with the defroster before you head out this morning. Even though you may have your windshield scraped clear, your cold windshield could ice up very easily while you're driving, causing significant visibility problems.
The National Weather Service says we're looking at between an inch or 2 of snow along with about a quarter inch of ice, and getting worse the closer you are to Louisville.
Furthermore, the storm system we're in stretches all the way back to East Texas, so it's looking to continue for a while.
To keep up on conditions, keep tuned to WBIW, and keep an eye on the Winter Weather Watchers for the latest on closings, cancellations and delays.
