County Deputy Charged In Connection With Hawkins Case

(BEDFORD) - A Lawrence County Sheriff’s Deputy has been placed under arrest.

Reports say yesterday, Lawrence County's Captain Mike Terry, who formerly served as Chief Deputy under disgraced former Sheriff Kent Hawkins, has been charged with forgery.

Lawrence County Cheriff's Department along with State Police and FBI officials seem to have come up with enough evidence to have a warrant issued for Terry's arrest yesterday. Terry turned himself in but was released on bond.

Sheriff Sam Craig says the investigation into Terry is part of the continuing investigation into dealings of the former Sheriff Kent Hawkins administration.

Hawkins himself recently pled guilty to forgery and official misconduct charges.

As a result, Captain Terry has been placed on administrative leave with pay which, Craig says, puts a hardship on the department since the work done by terry now has to be done by other officers.

Craig also said, however, that a merit officer, which Captain Terry is, cannot immediately be fired without a hearing from the county's merit board.
