Ackerson Files To Challenge Buyer In Lawrence County
(BEDFORD) - Fourth District Congressman Steve Buyer has his first opponent here in Lawrence County.
Zionsville attorney Nels Ackerson has filed his paperwork at the Lawrence County Courthouse this morning to put his name on the Democratic ballot in this year's May 6th primary.
So far, both Buyer and Ackerson seem to be unchallenged in their respective primaries.
Ackerson said he wanted to focus his campaign on independence from party politics, education and economic reform, and changing the direction in the war in Iraq.
When asked why Lawrence County specifically should vote for him, though, he said, "Lawrence County should vote for me because I will listen to you, I will lead, I will represent, I will reach across party lines, you will know that I'm working for you. I guarantee you will know I am working for you. I will be here often enough that you will know that and you will see it in the way I reach out and ask for your help and ask for your guidance."
Ackerson criticized incumbent Buyer over not coming to Lawrence County enough.
Buyer has yet to file paperwork with the courthouse in Bedford, however, once he does, we will take a moment to speak with him as well.
