Suspected "Puppy Mill" Dismantled In Mitchell

(MITCHELL) - Mitchell police responded to a report of a so-called “puppy mill” along Grissom Avenue in the City of Mitchell Saturday afternoon.

Around 3:00pm, individuals reportedly came to City Hall saying they had seen photographs depicting dogs in squalid conditions at the residence demanding they be rescued by city police.

The people were initially told the Street Department was in charge of animal calls and that they were off duty with it being the weekend, and the complainants asked if they needed to call the Sheriff's Department to get something done about it.

Shortly after, another individual came in with actual photographs of the dogs, and at that point, Mitchell officers dispatched to the home.

Officers arrived at the home in question and removed all the dogs, all of which were taken to the White River Humane Society.

Nobody between Mitchell police and the Lawrence County Prosecutor's Office have been able to be reached by press time in regards to possible criminal charges, and the White River Humane Society is presently refusing to comment on the current status of the recovered dogs.
