Mitchell Man Snaps Utility Pole In Suspected Alcohol-Related Wreck
(MITCHELL) - An allegedly drunk man injured himself after running his car off the road and into a utility pole, snapping it in half.
Lawrence County Sheriff's reports say 25-year-old Daniel Gerkin of Mitchell was southbound on Rabbitsville Road near Stevens Lane when he says another vehicle crossed into his lane head-on, causing him to run off one side of the road, swing across to the other side, hit a mailbox and then a utility pole.
Gerkin allegedly told deputies he had been drinking prior to the accident, and intoxicant tests are currently pending.
Gerkin was reportedly taken by his father to Dunn Memorial Hospital for a possible head fracture.
No citations have been issued pending alcohol test results.
