Last Nights Storms Take Out Trees, Roofs, And French Lick
(BEDFORD) - The WBIW listening area is still working its way out of the damage from last nights winds and storms.
As of about 10:30 this morning, almost 650 Duke Energy customers in Lawrence County and surrounding counties are still without power.
An additional 500 homes in eastern Greene and Monroe County who are customers of the Utilities District of Western Indiana REMC are without power as of 8:00 this morning. Duke's total numbers were revised up to just over 58,000 in Indiana, most of that revision coming from Morgan County, where more than 2,700 homes remain without power out of the more than 8,000 that went dark, making Morgan the new winner, if you want to look at it that way, in power outages from last night.
Around 250 people in Lawrence and 300 in Orange County are without juice, including the entire Town of French Lick, but Martin and Washington Counties are back at 100%.
Duke Energy's Angeline Protogere tells WBIW News she estimates power statewide should be back on by midnight or sooner, and the French Lick substation should be put back together by 5:00pm.
Here in Bedford, the storms took their toll on the south end of town. There were reports of homes that had trees blown in them on River Bluff. The stone mill at 39th and Washington is missing its roof today, and at around 7:30 last night, 39th Street was declared impassable due to the number of trees, power lines and other debris that blocked the roadway.
However, just because power's back on, doesn't mean were out of the woods yet.
The National Weather Service issued a winter storm watch for the area from Lawrence County on north starting tomorrow evening. They're expecting 2 to 5 inches of snow on top of a quarter inch of ice.
