(INDIANAPOLIS) - A Bloomington state trooper was honored for his life-saving rescue of an elderly driver from a flaming gas station in Linton in January of last year.
Master Trooper Harry Bedwell, who is from Linton, just barely missed getting clipped by another out-of-control vehicle which ended up striking a gas station fuel pump, shearing the pump from its base, and igniting a fountain of gasoline.
The ignited fuel caused a fireball that troopers say shot 15 feet into the air.
Master Trooper Bedwell grabbed the fire extinguisher from his cruiser, put the fire down and got the 89-year-old driver to safety.
Just yesterday, Master Trooper Harry Bedwell was awarded the Indiana State Police Life Saving Award for his heroic actions on January 5th, 2007.
