(MITCHELL) - Two people were injured, one seriously, in another cell-phone related accident on Highway 37 south of Mitchell yesterday.

Lawrence County officers report 23-year-old Heather Smith of Orleans was southbound on 37 when she reached to grab her phone.

At that point, she reportedly left the right hand side of the roadway, lost control of the vehicle, and then came back across, going left of the center line, and hitting the vehicle of 50-year-old Pamela Willis of Orleans nearly head on.

Reports say Willis was unable to avoid the accident, and Bedford fire and police responders had to help extricate her from her vehicle as she was trapped and incapacitated, suffering internal injuries to her abdomen and pelvis areas.

Smith also was injured, showing bleeding along her lower leg.

Both drivers were taken by ambulance, no citations were issued.
