(BEDFORD) - US Army officials are watching the investigation into the mysterious death of a paratrooper visiting home in Bedford this week.

21-year-old Specialist Zachery Gary of the 82nd Airborne Division was found dead on a friend's couch Saturday.

Lawrence County Coroner John Sherill said friends thought he was sleeping, however, Gary had passed.

Sherrill is awaiting the results of an autopsy and toxicology test before he can determine a cause of death, however, either drugs or alcohol are suspected.

According to Army officials, Gary had served in Iraq with the 3rd Brigade Combat Team as a driver between August of 2006 and this past October.
