State Police Bloomington To Issue Electronic Tickets
(BLOOMINGTON) - State troopers in Bloomington are making the issuance of citations a little more efficient.
Lieutenant Paul Bucher of the Bloomington district received $2.4 million in federal grants to acquire and implement an electronic ticket system to generate electronic citations.
The electronic citation and warning system, developed by the Indiana Supreme Court's Judicial and Automation Committee, will scan your driver's license and populate citation forms automatically from the information it reads.
Such optical character recognition systems have been in use in homes and offices for about a decade now, but the digital reading of driver's licenses is a relatively new development being used by various law enforcement agencies, and even by some school security guards in areas, in order to automatically generate ID badges for school visitors.
