Parsley Named Chief Of Bedford Police
(BEDFORD) - The Bedford police officially have a new chief as of yesterday.
Mayor Joe Klumpp named Dennis Parsley, a 29-year veteran of the force, public information officer and now former head of training, as Chief of Police yesterday.
Klumpp worked with mayor-elect Shawna Girgis to make the decision so the police would both have a regular chief quickly after the retirement of David Jarrard in October, and so there wouldn't be another changeover once Girgis takes office in January.
Parsley joined the force in 1978 and has played many roles including that of "Officer Friendly" up until 1994.
Up until this announcement, Parsley has been sharing chief duties with his colleague, Major Dan Kirk, but now will be the sole chief in charge of Bedford's 30-plus officers.
Kirk has since been named Assistant Chief.
