(BEDFORD) - A series of purse snatchings in Bedford were brought to a close Saturday night when Bedford police arrested a 30-year-old Greenwood man.

Bedford police allege Jason S. Smith of Greenwood nabbed 4 purses at differing locations.

Shortly before 2:30pn Saturday, Bedford police got a call of a man snatching a woman's purse from the Village Laundry and running out the door.

Then, about 40 minutes later, they responded to a call at the Jay-C Plus grocery store in Bedford about the same thing.

Then, 40 minutes after that, a woman came to the police station to report her purse being stolen form the Jay-C Eastside, and then a half hour after that, a woman also came to the police station to report hers stolen, but from Wal-Mart.

Then, at 8:30 Saturday night, police got a call from Wal-Mart loss prevention saying they had a man of matching description being detained.

Police responded, and, upon further investigation, realized Smith, the man in custody, matched previous descriptions and had reportedly stolen items in his possession.

Smith was arrested and charged with 4 counts of theft.
