IU Led Team Wins Networking Competition
(BLOOMINGTON) - In what many would consider to be the ultimate geek competition, a team led by Indiana University won first place in an international competition for high-bandwidth computer networking applications.
The Indiana team, which also consisted of members from universities in Rochester, New York, Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, and Dresden, Germany, was presented with the award at the SC07 conference in Reno, Nevada.
What did they accomplish?
They were able to transfer 18.21 gigabits of data per second, nearly doubling the second-place runner up.
What does that mean?
To put it in perspective, that's more than 182 times faster than the fastest home networks you can buy. With their design, you can transfer up to 170 CD's worth of data across the Atlantic in about a minute.
