(BLOOMINGTON) - The first salvo in the quest for the Old Oaken Bucket has been fired between Indiana University and Purdue.
Indiana University claimed victory in the IU-Purdue blood donor challenge again this year, making it a 3-peat, though they still trail Purdue overall 5-6 in the 11-year friendly challenge.
More than 4,300 Hoosiers donated blood during the drive, whereas not quite 4,000 Boilermakers participated.
The event racked up more than 8,200 total donors, falling a little over 200 short of the record set last year, but it's still an impressive number since the drive was also 2-weeks shorter than last year.
IU will receive the "Blood Bucket" during halftime of tomorrow's game.
